Elmer Anderson, a past governor for MN died. I didn't know who he was until today, but I should have. Self-proclaimed a liberal republican, he was mighty progressive. The glue company that he ran for years was one of the first to give employees paid vacation time with one stipulation. They could only use it to do something fun. He also thought that since famous people like Dr. King get a day for their birthdays, so should his empolyees. Everyone got their birthdays off!

How rad is that?

I could see a problem with that . . .

Very rad, indeed. I always have my birthdays off now . . . or I never have my birthdays off . . . it depends on how you look at it!

The birthday idea should be made International Law - maybe it could be called an 'Elmer' day?

I'm with dynamaso and island_gurl. I can hear it already...
"A new international holiday has been announced today from the halls of England. Bush and Blair have agreed to let the UN...."
(say it in your best newscaster voice and it sounds quite nice!)

I heard that piece on NPR it was incredible...definitely would be described as way over the top in our current coporate stranglehold on employees. He even told a guy that he shouldn't be working for his company so put him on 6 months full pay just to find a new job!!!!!!!!!!!

Where are the rest of the saints?

Where are the rest of the saints?

Birthdays off?!?! That's absurd. I say, screw you, get back to work. I don't even care if it's the actual day of your birth. C-section baby? Doctor just cut the chord? Not circumsized yet? Screw you! I want employee productivity and I want it now! Get back to work, hippie. And forget about Christmas. That's just another birthday as far as I'm concerned.
